Written in the Hills
Spring River, Arkansas
Bruce Stinchcomb

Film clips from a trip on Arkansas Spring River. Parts of the Spring River are
whitewater (a name which I use in the narration). Waterfalls, common on this river
are formed from a sort of "rimstone dam" material apparently produced by calcium
carbonate precipitated by a community of photosynthetic organisms. Thus, the
material making up the dams can be considered as being a type of stromatolite.
