Discussion:

This is a medium-sized brachiopod with a strongly curved shell,
scattered large spines and a cluster of halteroid spines extending
laterally from each ear of the hinge. The shell has irregular ribs
(costae) and faint reticulate ornamentation on the beak area.

Viewer comments:

In general appearance this brachiopod is similar to Kozlowskia borealis,
but Rugatia is twice as large. Rugatia is distinguished from Kozlowskia
by its subdued reticulate ornament on its beak area that reveals it is
a dictyoclostid, by irregular ribbing and by having halteroid spines on
the ears.
