Pemmatites macroporus Dunikowski, 1884Discussion:
These are complete specimens of this rounded dome-shaped sponge,
showing a regular pattern of pores and a radial and reticulate
(cross-hatched) pattern of major spicules. The outer surface of these
sponges have numerous exhalent pore openings where water is channeled
and expelled from the sponge after being searched for food particles.
The broad depression on the lower surface corresponds to the
attachment area of the sponge, which may have used large anchoring
spicules that extended into the soft bottom sediments.
