A few years ago on an EMSP field trip we found a mat of criss-crossed stems
covering a slab that had fallen from the quarry face. The slab was 4ft x 4ft and
was completely covered with long, intermingled stems. Smaller slabs from these
colonies would turn up from time to time in the quarry, unfortunately the most
productive area has been reclaimed as of our last field trip a few months ago.
