Upper contact of algal mound limestone, Worland Limestone
The hammer head rests on the top of a Worland Limestone
algal mound.
Dark objects in the mound facies are plates of calcareous algae, which
are responsible for the darker color of the mound limestone, giving it a
vaguely bluish hue on outcrop. The light gray micritic limestone behind
the hammer is more typical of the lower Worland. The accompanying
polished slab of algal mound limestone was collected here.
